GGC History and Purpose

The Goddard Gun Club was formed at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland in 1967 to provide an organization for NASA employees and contractors who enjoy firearms.  In 1973 the Club was successful in establishing a firing range on the east side of the GSFC campus.  Although the range is closed for the time being, the Club continues to promote a variety of sports centered around the safe and legal use of firearms.

Looking for Speakers at Club Meetings

The club is always on the lookout for speakers for the monthly Club meetings. If you have some firearms knowledge you’d like to share at a meeting, please consider offering to do a presentation. Presentations can range from 10-50 minutes. Subjects can range from rifle ballistics, shooting stances, spotting scopes, types of ammunition, long range techniques, how to zero your rifle, home protection, etc.
You don’t have to be an expert; just someone who will share their knowledge with others.

We’re particularly interested of finding an attorney with experience in gun laws in Maryland who could speak to that topic.

Obtaining AGC Badges Through the Club

This year AGC has changed the way it issues badges.

To get AGC membership/access for 2010 you will need a current Goddard Gun Club membership card for 2010. When you join the club you will receive your membership card at that time.

The easiest way to get your membership renewed and get your membership card is to submit your application and dues at a Club meeting. Otherwise, you can send it via mail (with payment) to the on-center address indicated on the membership form.
Once you have your 2010 GGC Club Card you can go to the range any time and have the Range Safety Officer issues your AGC badge.

Be aware that new Club/AGC members will need to view the AGC orientation video and have a range walk thru at the time they receive their badge so plan time accordingly. Please contact John Habert (Club AGC Rep) at agcrep@goddardgun.org to coordinate this.

Note: You must remain a member of this Club or another AGC club throughout the year to retain your AGC badge. If you leave NASA (other than retirement) and/or don’t retain membership in GGC or in one of the AGC Clubs, you no longer qualify to hold an AGC badge.

No Guns, Ammo or Powder on GSFC

Please be aware that private firearms, ammunition and gun powder are NOT Authorized on GSFC.  Being a member of the Goddard Gun Club does NOT bestow any special privilege to posses these items on Center at any time.

Monthly Meetings

Next Monthly Meeting - 6 Apr 10 at 4:30pm.

The Goddard Sportsman's Club will host its 5th Annual Open House at the Bea and Barney Recreation Center on Tuesday, April 6, from 4:30-7 p.m. The event will feature a presentation of the video, Basics of Personal Protection in the Home.

Also included are other shooting sports videos, displays of shooting related items and information on club events. Meet fellow shooting enthusiasts and enjoy food (hamburgers/chicken) and beverages.

The food is free for club members; $8/person for guests. Club membership is $10/year and applications will be taken at the door. All are welcome.

Club Federal Firearms License (FFL) Status

In October 2006, GSFC denied the club permission to hold a Federal Firearms License (FFL). This means the Club no longer has an FFL.

The Club has made arrangements with local Firearms stores to handle legal purchases of firearms and firearms related materials requiring an FFL. Additional information will be posted here soon detailing the process.

GGC On-Site Range

In May 2008 the Club's on-site range at GSFC was demolished as part of the reconstruction effort on the east campus at GSFC.  The range was originally shutdown by the then  GSFC Center Director in the spring of 2001.
